The LOGOS program has the following elements:

--Snacks (not shown on schedule) are served as the elementary students arrive from school.

--Recreation is a time for structured play under the supervision of a recreation leader. The games promote respect, mutual understanding and Christian principles.

--Bible study is an age-appropriate exploration of the meaning of God’s Word for our lives. It is intended to supplement, not replace, the Sunday School curriculum.

--Worship skills is a time to learn worship songs and learn about the various aspects of the Sunday worship service.

--Dinner is “LOGOS family time.” Children of all ages are seated with “table parents” who promote conversation and appropriate behavior. The meal usually has a theme, described in the menu/schedule.

CHAOS GOES MISSING!

Christ-Has-All-Our-Solutions, or CHAOS, is the acronym used by the Wednesday night Middle School group.  You may not have seen or heard much about them lately.  Don’t worry – we’ve been here all along.  Like all middle school kids, they know how and like to fly “below the radar” sometimes.  It’s one of the reasons why instant messenger, text messaging, and ipods are so popular!  They are there, but nearly invisible.  To let you in on our “secret” activities, let me recap:
In December, we took 18 CHAOS Carolers to the 100th Street Hy-Vee to sing at the Salvation Army Kettle.  Not only did we sing, we also brought along a clarinetist and a tuba player.  It was freezing cold, forcing us to shorten our performance.  We couldn’t be sure, as some donations were obscured, but we know at least $200 went into the red kettle during the hour we sang.  People stopped to listen, smiled, and thanked us.  What a great feeling it gave all of us to participate.  During Christmas Break we had a lock-in at St Paul, with 18 kids in attendance.  The night began with a service project – working in the “Clothing Closet” at Crown Point.  We were crammed into 2 rooms.  The “showroom” was filled with racks and racks of clothes.  The other room was a warehouse of garbage bags filled with donated clothes.  Does this sound like a place to hang out on Spring Break?  The jobs included emptying the clothing racks, folding clothes, and repackaging them to be sent to another location for distribution.  The “warehouse”, a former racquetball court, was completely covered to hip deep level with bags and bags of newly donated clothes.  Here we sorted, folded, and hung up clothes to ready them for the showroom.  Nearly empty shelves were restocked with toiletries and baby supplies.  The kids identified plenty of interesting items – one even suspected they found their own stuff their own Mom had donated under their radar!    Under the direction of 3 dedicated Clothing Closet  volunteers, the kids ‘chaotically’ worked to support a very worthwhile project.  We were invited back, as we did a good job and the need for volunteers is high.  Kudos Kids!  Later that night at the church, we played X-box games, dance-dance revolution, guitar hero, and watched movies (not their parents’ church lock-ins!). 
Our Lenten studies have included lessons on sacrifice and fasting, light and darkness, temptation, and pancake races.  Our famous pancake races commemorate the emptying of the fat from our pantries at home.  Pancake throwing also took place and was judged for height, distance, and intactness of the pancakes!  The scraps were then donated to St. Paul wildlife.   We would have assisted Pastor John at the Ash Wednesday service, however, one the many snow/ice storms of this season had other ideas!  We are planning another overnight this Spring, and perhaps a short trip this summer.  CHAOS kids and parents DO check your e-mail!!

CHAOS Calendar

Thank you to all who helped with CHAOS this year.  We had an energetic and fun-filled year with an average attendance of 15 Middle Schoolers each Wednesday.  We are working on a Spring/Summer Retreat and would love to get the group together a couple of times this summer.    -Val, Robyn, and Aaron
